Bernard Dunigan's Offaly Roots

Recent research has disclosed the Irish origins of Bernard Dunigan of Woodbridge, NJ, patriarch of many US Dunigans. Bernard was born on October 14, 1828 to Edward and Mary Dunigan of Raheen, Killeigh Parish, County Offaly, Ireland. (County Offaly was formerly known as Kings County.) Edward was likely born in the 1780s and died 1 January 1861. His father was also named Edward; he was born in 1732 and died in 1814. Edward Sr. was married to Marcella, who was born in 1752 and died in 1826. Edward and Marcella had two sons that we know about in addition to Edward Jr. William, who was born in 1777 and died in 1808, and Michael, who was born in 1771 and died in 1861. Michael was married to Elizabeth (1791-1864) and had at least one daughter, Marcella, who married a man named Dwyer and lived 1810-1892. All the above are buried in the Catholic graveyard in Raheen.
